Speech Title: On Cyclostationary Impulsive Noise Mitigation for Narrowband Powerline Communications

Abstract:

The dominant noise in narrowband powerline communication (NB-PLC) systems is cyclostationary impulsive noise (IN), which severely degrades communication performance. Conventionally, a frequency shift (FRESH) filtering approach exploits the cyclostationary effect to extract the IN component in the received signal. In this talk, we will discuss how adaptive FRESH filters can be applied on solving the cyclostationary impulsive noise. Moreover, we also consider a practical issue called cyclic frequency offset problem associated with the FRESH filters and discuss how to compensate such problem. Computer simulation is conducted based on the IEEE 1901.2 specification to verify the effectiveness of our proposed methods.
